ymca

YMCA
I just started working at the Local Joplin YMCA. Going into this I didn’t know if I would like it at all. Growing up I was the baby in the family so I never had to deal with little siblings. So I have never really had experience with younger kids. So I predicted that it was going to be a great challenge on my first day. Going into my first day I was sitting the cafeteria at the school and was not feeling to good about this. As I’m weighting the girl walks through the door and introduces herself. She would be my other teacher I would be working with. I was still a little scared but I though well at least I get to work with this pretty gal.  The kids started showing up and I begun to realize this other teacher had a pretty good handle on the kids. Well I was thinking this won’t be nearly as bad as I though.  We went outside and played on the play ground. I was thinking this is great I get paid to play old school yard games I miss. Which it turned out to be a little more than that, but I was really surprised there was five little kids that came up to me and said I looked like they had seen me before. I began to figure out that they realized I playing football with The Missouri Southern lions, and they have seen me on game day before.  This was really cool for me because I’m just a redshirt freshman not getting that much playing time but these kids knew who I was.  Can’t imagine what it would be like to be Brandon Williams. Thought out that first day it went really well we played lots of games and the kids had a lot of fun. One of the hardest parts for me did not know everyone’s name. It’s really hard to discipline a kid for doing something wrong when you can’t even call them by their name. You’re not going to get respect from a kid by saying hey you you’re in trouble.  So one day down and I was ok with this job. I still didn’t really know if I liked it or not but it was promising. The next day I got to go back to the same school which I liked. I don’t like going to a different school every day. It’s just not very appealing to me. I like being at one school and getting to know the kids you are with. Which is what I got to do being with these kids for three days in a row. I really started to like a lot of them and you could tell they were starting to like me a lot too. It was nice to because I got to learn a lot of their names and it was a lot easier to be friends with them and play with them, but at the same time it was also nice when it came to being the teacher when you had to be stick with them. Over all I really like it.

interesting Egypt events

Gender Attitudes and Religious Mores in Egyptian Society
Egypt views on religion, the opposite sex and many other things are very different from how we see them in United States. For example ninety present of their population is Muslim. But most of them have never ever read there holy book. The other ten percent are Christian. Which this was not as big of a surprise to me as what goes on between a man and women; in Egypt it is shamed upon if a woman is not a virgin. Witch was strange for me because the United States that is not a big deal for us we see girls having sex in high school and getting even younger every year. It’s not even that big of a deal. But over in Egypt it is completely different. One man that was interviewed said he would kill his sister if she lost her virginity before marriage. He was not joking at all. He really meant what he said. And he would really do it.  Which even in American there are protective brothers but they would be trying to kill the guy who took her virginity not her. But he might say he would kill her but he really wouldn’t. In Egypt that brother would kill her and go to jail but it would be worth it for his sister would have embarrassed his family’s name. Also in Egypt divorces is a lot different. Woman can apply for divorce but even if they get it they will never get their kids and never get a new husband.
HARAM! Unveiling the Mystery of the Forbidden Dance
In American when you think of belly dancers there not a big deal, just something some girls do for fun. Some girls even do it to get in shape. But in Egypt it is a crime to be a belly dancer. It puts decrease on your family. So these girls have to do it in secret. It kind of like those underground dog or cage fights in American. But these girls do it because they love it. When I first walked into this event I thought it would just be like five dances. Not a real big number nothing to hard. But came to find out there were fifteen or more dances. This was really impressive for me because I do not know how they remember dancers could remember five dances that are at least five minutes long each. As the night went a long I became more and more impressed with each of these dances there was a story to go along with it. This was kind of nasty. They had a story of a pregnant girl and her birth of her baby. Another big surprise to me was how athletic these girls were. They were doing lots of things in these dances that were just in creditable.  They were fit and built well just like all the dancers are in America. They also must have a great memory. Each of the girls having at least five dances. This was a great event to go to.

if i were to die tomarow

When you gave me this assignment I didn’t think it would help at all. Now after the fact now after doing the three days of writing my mind has changed drastically.  Some night I would lay in bed restless thinking about the things in my life that had not gone the right way, the things that if I had a wish I would change the things that keep me up at night. The first night I started to right about 20 minutes before I went to bed and I got all my though down that I usually lay there for an hour thinking about. It was hard for me to get started but after I started writing it began to flow out of me. After I was done I still laid awake think about things after I was down righting but it was not as bad.  Then the next night I used the same process.  This night with a new topic I wrote with and got in all out. Even this night it was a little hard to get started again but once I got the first few thoughts out there it really just started flowing.  This night I feel asleep ever faster than I did the night before.  Now it was time for the third and final night of this assignment.  I came up with another topic that bothered me at nights and I started to write about it.  This night I had no trouble starting to write it and it just flowed out of me and it was even hard for me just to stop at the time limit.  After I was done I feel asleep faster than I have in a long time because I didn’t have these things going through my head.  This project was very interesting for me.  I have never had the opportunity to do something like this before. I said before into this I was very skeptical of this assignment and if it would work for me or not.  It was hard for me to think of something to write about until I thought about the nagging things I think about every night that keep me from getting to sleep.  Yes I really liked this assignment is very helpful for me to write my thoughts down instead of just thinking though them in my head.  It was very helpful for me, because it let me get everything on paper then after the fact it let me just crumble it up and though it away like I was tossing it out of my mind.  In the way that this help me was much unexpected I thought it might work but not as well as it did.  I chose the topic I did because over all I have had a very successful life and I don’t have a lot of regrets but the things that do keep me up at night are my only problems so I decided to write about those.

Gagudju Australian Aborigines

The Gagudju Australian Aborigines were simple folk. They have been around for four hundred thousand years. To this day there original tripe culture still exists. This is pretty amazing to me.  The way the Gagudju have been around for this long is for the simple things. The first thing is they respect nature, which is odd to me because of the way Americans are today. The second reason they are still around today is because they respect their elders. The reason this is so important is because they are the only ones that know the true culture of the Gagudju.  Through this they would pass down all the information, but today they don’t have anyone left to pass this great information onto. They last reason they are still around today is because they can live off the land.

The next thing I found interesting about the Gagudju Australian Aborigines tripe was the animals they were surrounded by.  The first one that impressed me was off course the crocodile. It is the kind of all the rivers down there.  The next animal that caught my eye was the kangaroo. I didn’t know that there were two different kinds of kangaroos there. I always thought there was only one kind. But there are two different kinds and one is calmer and the other is feisty and likes to me more out there and jump all over the place and play around. The next animal I liked was the lizard with the loose skin. Which came for the original being cursed but I will get to that in the next paragraph. I loved how it would just run around and I have never seen anything like it before. Next was the boss of it the entire eagle. The eagle is there to look over everything and really the most respected animal.  It’s just so amazing how it can swoop down and grab fish out of the water with its talon. Some after will go feed their young which I liked. Then when it is Australia is going through its dryer stage and the water lowers in will swoop down and grab these huge fish I don’t know how it even picks it up. Then after it gets it and start eating another bird swoops in and scares it off. This other bird is really smart because its beak is not sharp enough to cut into the tough skin of these bigger fist so it waits till after the mighty eagle has done all the work then it swoops in. The last animal the impressed me was this little bird that would work for two weeks to build a shelter. Then after he is done with that he will go and get all these bones and drag them over there and put them under his shelter. He does all of this just to impress a women. I just couldn’t believe it.  Then his man pad was he is trying to get some women back to get burned down so he has to start all over again. That is just so impressive but yet weird at the same time.

The most interesting thing I found about the Aborigine people was there believes of the dream time.  Were animals turned into people and people turned into animals. Then sometime animals would turn into the land. This is how they got a lot of their great rock faces. This was just so fascinating to me. I think it would be awesome to turn into an animal. Myself I would turn into a lion, horse or bear and maybe chaetae that would be awesome to run that fast. Most of their traditions rely on them believing in the dream time. This was so just interesting to me.

a fun story

I was born on October 28, 1986 in Maryville Missouri. I was born into this world with to great Parents James and Janet Dolan. I had one older Brother, his name was Jeremy. He was born two years before I was. If you have never been to Maryville, don’t come. It was a terrible down to grow up in. Ok maybe not terrible but it is small and there is not much to do. So when it came to my high school and teen years I had sports to make up most of my times. As a Freshman I was a three sport starter in Football, wrestling and track. I was all state in every one of them. I had such a great future. During the next three years of high school I set all the school record in every sport I played in. My senior year I decided to go to Mizzou to play college football. But sports were not my only great thing I had in high school my freshman year I meet this fantastic girl. Her name was Morgan. We dated all though out high school and it was great we were both great athletes so we were the power couple that everyone wanted to be. So she decides to fallow me to Mizzou. College went great, by my junior year I had two great things happen to me I decided to leave college early for the NFL draft and also I proposed to Morgan. It was so romantic. The next thing we knew she was pregnant. So after a year went by life was so great we had a kid and another that was just born and our marriage was going great! I just had the best rookie season of any NFL running back ever and we made it to the super bowl. Then my luck went downhill during the game I was hit and knocked out. I had to go to the hospital and I found out that I had a brain bleed and could never play football again. So we took this in stride and tried to stay I tight family but then we found out that our accountant was stealing money from use so we didn’t have any left so we were going to have to make drastic life changes. We had to move to this new house that small and drafty.  With being out of the NFL and not having a job I had to go out everyday all day and look for work to try to support my family. It was harder then I though moving having my college diploma really was hurting me. But Morgan was being really supportive. This is why i am so glad i am living this great live with Morgan. Times may be tuff but we have each other. We also have our two wonderful kids!

Pregnancy Discrimination on the Court

Pregnancy Discrimination on the Court

In Fort Worth, Texas a senior’s worst dream had come true.  She had become pregnant and the dad was not in the picture. Mackenzie McCollum had a lot going on in her life she was a: musician, honor student, community volunteer and finally the varsity volleyball setter.  Mackenzie never came off the court she was one of the team’s best players.  When most teenage girls become pregnant they drop out of everything and do as little as possible besides being pregnant and trying to deal with that.  Mackenzie was different though she wanted to fight and stay on the court and finish her senior season, but with this description came discrimination that she never thought would come.  With her Christian faith it put the talk of abortions to rest and now it was just about having this baby. Also doing what she had to do to gradate and play volleyball. To remain on the team she had to go to a doctor and get cleared to play.  With the great news of being cleared came the start of the first of the controversies.  With her absence from the court until she got cleared her team mates wondered where she was.  She had keep her pregnancy a secret form everyone and didn’t want anyone to know about it, this way no one would treat her different. At a team meeting during her absences the coach received many of questions about where she was. Instead of keeping it to himself he told the whole team and violated student privacy policies.  That day after practice Mackenzie received text from all her teammates asking about her pregnancy.  Even being back on the team it wasn’t the same.  Her coach had cut her time and had tried to tell her it wasn’t because she was pregnant but she knew it was. She believed that he had done it fearing what over schools and teams would think of the school having a pregnant volleyball player.  This whole thing bothered her so much that she almost terminated the pregnancy. This controversy was not over,  after the season Mackenzie’s mother and her fought the school on their polices about pregnant athletes. They wanted this rule to change, that way no one would ever have to go through what she had too.  As Mackenzie’s Mother said it best “just because your pregnant doesn’t mean life is finished and over and you should sit at home and eat bon bon’s and watch soup operas and keep your feet up.”

This story can represent a couple of the theories but I am going to talk about how this fits with the fundamentalist theory.  Mackenzie is a girl who made a bad choice as many high school girls have done and became pregnant. She fought though it and fought to stay on the volleyball team the one thing that she loved the most. She has set a new standard for pregnant athletes and discrimination against them.  This story can be inspiring to many young girls out there who have made a bad choice but yet with this story they can fight though it and be successful like Mackenzie.

A Diamond in the Rough

A Diamond in the Rough

This is the story of a boy that goes from homelessness to NFL super star. At the age of seven years old Michael Oher’s father died and his mother being a drug addict left him to fend for himself on the streets.  At the age of 16 he was six feet four inches tall and 315 pounds.  After staying with a friend one night, the friend’s father was intent on taking his son to a private school to gain admission.  Michael tagged along, and despite concerns from the school about his academic progress, Michael was also accepted to this private Christian school.  On a snowy Memphis day Michael was getting off the bus in t-shirt and shorts.  He was heading to the gym to get warm when the Tuohy family, drove by and stopped him. They had a daughter who went to the same school he did.  They offered him a ride and took him back to their home.  After time with the Tuohy family Michael’s life turned around.  They supported him and gave him food and clothes and were there for him. When Michael started at the private school he had a .4 gpa.  By the time he left he had a 4.0. Not only did he improve in the classes room he also got a chance to play sports after improving his grades.  He ended up playing football and was the number one offensive lineman recruit in the nation.  By this time the Tuohy family had become his own and they adopted him.  With his new dad being a basketball star and him mom being a cheerleader from Old Miss he decided to go in there footsteps and play football there.  Now in 2011 with the support of his new family Michael is getting ready for his third season in the NFL as a member of the Baltimore Ravens.

This is a great example of the functionalist theory.  This kid went from homeless to NFL super star.  All he needed was the right family to raise and nurture him.  This is what is good in sports is when you can take a guy like this with a good heart that just wasn’t given the greatest parents to get a second chance at life. Everybody deservers that second chance in life, when the cards they were dealt were not that good. When he started at the private school he couldn’t even read. He went from a .4 GPA to a 4.0, and then when he went to college he made the dean’s list. That part of the story is amazing in its self that a kid with no schooling until he was sixteen could do that much, all he knew were the streets. This was a great story and I wish more kids out there could get second chances like Michael got.

Don’t have to be Affluent to get a Surrogate

Don’t have to be Affluent to get a Surrogate

In the United States there are many families who can’t have children of their own.  When most people have this problem there are a few different ways, out there that you can go about trying to get a child.  One of the most popular ways is to use a surrogate mother.  This is where you use donor sperm from your husband or a sperm bank to put inside a woman of your choice to bare your child for nine months. Not all Families have to be affluent to get surrogate mothers.

Many issues come up when you’re talking about what kinds of families get surrogate mothers. The first issue that comes up is the financial issue.  In some cases surrogacy can be expensive but it depends on many factors.  It depends on whether you’re going through a friend or an agency to find the surrogate. The next thing that comes up is weather the surrogate has health insurance or not. If not your make have to pay up to 30,000 dollars for health insurance for her witch might be rougher on families that are not affluent. Although that’s not a deal breaker they would just need to find another surrogate.

The next issue that affects families that are looking for surrogate mothers are there family type.  There are many different kinds of families out there now in this world. There are families who have a mother and a father. Then there are those who only have a mother or a father which makes the trip for a surrogate harder sometimes. Then there are those families that are gay or lesbian and those pose even different problems.

The last issue and really the most important is what the family atmosphere is like.  Some families have two happy parents and some families have issues. Some have parents who fight all the time. In some the fighting is caused by alcohol or even drugs.   Even in some families you have spouses who are not faithful. This is all a part of the family atmosphere that you are trying to bring a baby into.

One percent of the baby’s born in the United States are from Assisted Reproductive Technologies. Of these one percent the qualifications is not that you are affluent. That’s not how you get to have a surrogate mother. You need to be a family that is surround by love and people who support them. Also they need to be families who have a good atmosphere.  These are the real things that matter when families are being chosen weather or not they get a surrogate mother. It’s not all about having money.

the play communion paper reaction if you didnt see it

The genre of communion was a tragicomedy. I say this because it has the story line of a tragedy but yet I thought it was funny too so I think it was a tragicomedy.  The playwright of communion is trying to tell us those love lives on and can be passed from anyone. Sometimes you don’t think you’re important to someone but you really are. I know this from just how the play went and how Jane had so much love from here friends and how she was so lucky. I relate to this because I know any time I have a problem that my friends with be there for me! And I will always have people who love me. It relates to the act of communion in church were your around friends and you communicate and talk about thing and have people who are there to support you and that’s what Jane and her group had. The first convention I saw was the fourth was the is invisible. The next one I saw was the arch ways that lead into another room. The last thing I saw was the step down and how it split the room in half and showed they were moving from room to room. The first element I saw was the costumes. The really set apart each actress and fit there personality.  For example Jane had a really conservative outfits and that’s her personality. Now on the other had her sister is a little more out there so she had a different outfit with the shorter skirt that fit her. Another element I saw was the wine. It really made there party and help loosen them up.  The next element I saw was the weed. I didn’t see this coming but when they took it out I saw that they were not all goodie goodie girls like I thought.  One element I saw was the furniture was fancy I though and it gave me the impression that Jane was doing really well. This may sound bad the I related most to David. He was not in the play for very long but I saw the most connection with him. And it’s not just because he was the only man. My connection with him was what he had to go through with Jane. Being with her and getting so close to her and then her leaving him I have been though that.  Then after the fact when he talked about her teaching him so much about himself and about their relationship that reminded me and one of my friends. The conflict he faced was moving on after Jane left him for her husband. And I saw him change not in the time he was on stage but from the stories they told that he moved on and got married and was really happy. Just how soft spoken he was really gave me the empression that he was a nice kind man.  It also revealed that he really did care a lot about Jane but he had moved on and wanted to teach her what he had learned.  This play was art because it put a message out there it was not on a canvas but it was acted and it moved me. It a way that made me feel things!  What I got from this was the you never give up, your friends will always be there and finally that pass the love on and it will be passed on to you.Yes this was first true play and I really  enjoyed it. I have only ever seen musicals. What added to my enjoyment was that I could related to all the people and it send out a great message. Nothing really subtracted from this play for me. Most people im sure said the cursing took away from the play but I really didn’t think there was that much. Being around football players all day really you here worse language than that.  We discussed about the real Jane and knowing she was alive and a real person was going though everything that was being acted up there made it all the more hit home and made it more meaning full. Yes I would recommend for my friends to go see this play I think they would all really enjoy it and have a great time like I did.  I liked it because you were up close and personal with the play and I liked it that was. It’s a lot more enjoy able for me that way.

why mssu should have a indoor practice facility

November 5, 2010

Jared Bruggeman

Athletic Director

3950 East Newman Road

Joplin, MO 64801

Dear Mr. Bruggeman:

When a future student or recruit steps onto campus they notice the new 17 million dollar recreation facility.  Then they stroll over to Leggit and Platte to look at their football facilities.    The big draw to every college campus is the football team. I am a football player at Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) and I believe it’s the time for the university to consider a new indoor football practice facility.

First, the number one goal every year for a coach besides winning is to his keep players healthy.  To keep the players healthy we have to have great strength and condition staff and facilities.  The problem at MSSU is we have the staff, but not the facilities.  Our facilities are outdated compared to other Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) teams.  With better facilities our team could be bigger, faster, and stronger.  This would help us compete better in the MIAA.

Second, peace of mind is one thing players should always have when they go out to practice.  They shouldn’t be worried about their locker getting broken into.  This is happening right now. A new facility would have a new security system to help secure of the locker room.  Also, with this new system we could put some outside the new coach’s offices.

Third, if you were a football player how would you like to be able to control the weather? I know I would.  Weather is something that distracts a player during the practice.  If you had a new indoor practice facility you could control the weather. For example,  D1 Schools, who get a facility like this double their wins the next year.

There are many reasons why MSSU should invest in an indoor football practice facility.  First look at the increase in recruiting that a new facility brings. Next you should look at the increase in production of the players that leads to more wins for the team. Another reason is the player’s peace of mind that they would get with have a secure facility. Next is preventing sickness among the team, which would help practices run more smoothly because they won’t have to replace players that are sick.  Lastly it will improve MSSU overall look.

Sincerely,

Jason Davis

summury of my first semester at mssu

                                                            First Semester Summary

Missouri Southern State University (mssu) in Joplin Missouri is where I spent my first semester of college at. It was a very interesting semester. The city of Joplin and my classes is what I will be sharing about in this summary.

Joplin Missouri a town of 45,000 people. This is a big change for a farm boy who grew up in a town of 10,000 just four hours north.  Joplin is a very interesting city there is a mall and lots of food places, bowling, clubs, bars, golf, and tennis. With all those places to go you think Joplin would be a fun exciting town to spend your first year of college at. Well if you answered yes to that you are wrong. Even with all those places to go it gets old and it just boring old Joplin. This may just be my option but for most of the students that I talk to here say the same thing.  But in all things considered it’s still more fun the little hick town Maryville Missouri which is where I grew up.

This semester at mssu I was in five classes for twelve hours. My first class of the week is a wellness class. This is one of my favorite classes because it is in my field and it’s interesting..  My next class is English 80. At first I was not very excited about being in that class but now I am glad I took it. It taught me more in one semester then all the high school English classes combined. My next class is UE. This was interesting class at time but yet also boring. The teacher was really good it was more just that some of the units were boring. I did learn a lot in this class but a lot of it I already knew.  I think it should be tough only for like the first month of school and you just learn about campus life. My next class is speech. This class is one of my least favorites. I don’t mind giving speeches I do well at them it’s just I didn’t like the teacher. He gave way to much homework. I only say this because he is the only speech teacher that does. We didn’t start giving speeches till right before thanksgiving break. All the other classes have give six speeches when we have just given two. My last class is a computer class. For me this is the most pointless class. In high school I had to do accounting class in a computer class while the teacher was teaching them about word and excel. I learned more by just over hearing stuff in that class then I did this whole semester in his class. I already knew how to do all the stuff most the time I was just helping my friend’s do there’s. This was an hour and fifteen minutes class and I this I was only that whole time once. Most the time I was only there for twenty minutes. I am proud of myself I didn’t miss a single class the whole semester.

Over all I have had a fun semester at mssu. I can’t wait to go home for Christmas but I know I will be ready to come back. Next semester I will be taking 16 hrs and I will be able to play football for the first time since I got here. I can’t wait for 2011.

why college

The Why questions of College

Why did I come to college?  I came to college for three reasons.  The first reason is to get an education that way I can earn more money when I get a job.  Money is not everything but yet it is very important. In my mind I want to be one of those husband and fathers that can give his wife and kids anything they need.  That way I have no sleepless nights worrying about money.  The next reason is to get the knowledge to get all of the certifications I need to get a job in the field I want.   This is really important in my field of health promotion.  The more certifications you have the better chance you have of getting a job.  The last reason I came to college is for football.  I came to Missouri Southern to play football.  I would of have gone no matter what but football is a big part of why I came to college.

What do I hope to learn about myself from going to college?  What I hope to learn about myself is what my true self is.  I don’t really know who I am or different things like that but I know as I go through college and football and have adversity I will discover my true self and really learn the most about myself.

What advantages do I hope to gain from going to college?  The first thing I hope to gain form going to college is lifelong friends.  I don’t have any from high school so I hope to gain some here. Some people that I can count on forever.  The next thing I hope to gain is a degree and lots of certifications to go with it so I can get a job.  That last thing I hope to gain out of going to college is to find my real self and know what I want and were I’m going and how it will turn out.

With these advantages I will have a great future after I get out of college. In my last semester of college I have to do an internship. With this internship I would like to go back home to Maryville Missouri and do an internship with Joe Quinlin the Strength Coach at Northwest Missouri State University. I want to go here because I have had great times when I have participated in Joe’s Speed and agility camps and I would like to learn more about all of the bands and speed training we did in this camp.   After I get done with this internship I would like to get a grad assistant job with their strength staff this way I could get even more experience. Also with this grad assistant job they would pay for my school. With this I would get a minor in nutrition. So over all I would have a bachelor degree in health promotion and wellness and a minor in business management and nutrition.

night of laughs

Night Full of Laughs

As I walk in the room of the party the first person I see is Peter Griffin.  His face looks like that of confusion and mystery.  As I’m getting closer I see Peter has a beer in his hand like always, probably almost drunk.  I ask Peter, “How is your family?”

“Well Louis is mad at me but I do not know why, she tried talking to me when I was watching the game but she should know by now I’m not listening to her when the game is on.”

I laughed and murmured “Yea she should know that it’s her fault!”

“YEAH!” Peter exclaimed. As he stumbled off his own drunken feet, and almost fell on a dog walking by, but I luckily I swooped in and caught him.

“Well how is Stewie?” I asked. As I see one of the other guess cut in front of Gabriel in the buffet line. This is not going to be good I hope Gabriel doesn’t get to mad, I remember what happened to the last guy that cut in front of him in line.

“I don’t know.” Peter says in confusion, “He is here somewhere.”

“Oh, really? I exclaimed. “I will have to go find him. Thanks Peter!” I look back over to see Gabriel launching the guy that cut in front of him out of the line and into the wall. Wow, he really loves his cake.  I see a small baby scamper across the floor. “Stewie!” I yelled.

“What in the heck, who said my named?”

“Hey Stewie, it’s me Jason, this is my party!”

“Kaboom!” I look around and Peter had tripped over Stewie. Well I thought to myself I guess I can’t save Peter all the time. Note to myself next time I have a party and Peter is coming make sure there is no alcohol. Well darn now I don’t get to talk to Stewie I don’t think he is feeling too well after having Peter fall on him.  I turned back around and I see this massive man. He must have been six foot, four inches tall. He was making me look small! It’s Ndamukong Suh.  “What’s up, Suh? I love watching you play!” I exclaimed.  With a gracious look on his face he said,

“Not too much, just having fun at this party!”

“Well I’m glad you are having a good time!  So what is your secret?”

“There’s not anything really man, it is just a lot of hard work and determination.”

“Well thank you, Suh! I will see you later.”

As I walked away from this giant of a man, I hear “I don’t care who you are, that’s funny right there!”

It was Larry the cable guy!  Larry looked like he was so relaxed and having lots of fun!  The whole time that I talked with Larry. I couldn’t stop laughing and smiling.   I turn around to walk away and I hear “Boom! Boom! Boom!” I stumble and almost fall over and when I regain my balance I looked up “BAM!”  It was Gabriel Iglesias the biggest funny guy I know. Just remember don’t cut in front of him in the buffet line.  I wonder how big this guy is. Well next time I might have to get more food these 4 huge guys almost ate all of it and it’s only been 10 mins into the party.

over night change

Over Night Change

The massive grandfather clock strikes Midnight and finally it is a new year. Josh an eighteen year old boy who is home alone on New Years, quickly knew what his new year’s resolution is. Josh’s resolution is to lose fifty pounds and get fit and try to play some intramural sports in college and succeed.  He thought how is he was going to do this and he thought supplements, would help him.  Josh went and got a fitness magazine and started to look though it for supplements he could take.  Americans should not take magazine supplement advertisement seriously.

The first thing American’s and Josh as well see when they pick up a fitness magazine and look inside is the before and after pictures.  The thing the public and Josh don’t know is that these pictures are not real.  Well they are real but in most cases they are taken in the same day but the after picture is taken and edited.  With this happening the pictures look so much different and you think the product really works, but it doesn’t. In reality there just tricking all of us.

The second thing Americans and Josh see is all the ripped guys and half naked women in the magazine. They have these huge guys that are just jacked and men and boys think dang he is huge or he is cut I want to look like that.  Then the women look at the same picture and they think man he is so hot.  Next they turn the page and the men see this half naked women and they can’t keep their eyes off of her and wanted to get what’s in her hand so they can get a girl like that.  As the women look at this page all they can think is that they want to look like this so they can get guys that look like the guy on the other page.  With this part we see how sex sells in advertising.

The third thing American’s and Josh see are the headings next to these ads.  These ads tell us everything we want to hear.  It could tell us this product will give us ten pounds of muscle in ten days. Maybe it could tell us that we could gain twenty pounds in ten days. Last it could tell us lose ten pounds in ten days.  The things they don’t tell us is that it’s only healthy for men to lose one to two pounds a week and for women to lose a pound to a pound and a half per week. They try to get us to believe and buy their product to do things that are unnatural things that are not healthy for our bodies.

Finally it’s time to shed light on the things people and Josh failed to read or don’t know about supplements.  The thing people fail to look at or read is the warning label.  They think   this doesn’t apply to them I don’t need to read it or it’s to dang small to even read.  It could say may cause bloody stool, acne, increase in testosterone levels, and even may cause shrinking of the testicals.   Also people don’t realize that most models who get their picture taken for those products were buying don’t even take it.  Most likely they took steroids and that’s how they got that body.

Before Josh goes to order the supplements he wants he talks to a friend and sees what they think.  Luckily Josh’s friend set him straight and told him all the things I have told us today.  Today Josh’s New Year’s goal has come true but it wasn’t because of supplements it was because of hard work and getting his diet and workout to fit what he wanted to do.  American’s I would recommend us to be like Josh and don’t take supplement ads seriously and just use hard work and the right diet to reach our goals.

sound of fitness

The Sound of Fitness

I can hear my feet hitting the rapid moving belt as it hits my feet with a rhythm.  I can hear my heart beating in my chest. It feels like it is going to explode.  As I listen to “ESPN” give me all the latest sporting news updates, I canter off and move on to my favorite piece of equipment: the bicycle.  My legs start to move faster and faster trying to beat my best time.  The sweat is now dripping off me as it free falls to the ground.

Bam, the sound of the weights hitting the floor is heard. The disappointment and anger of missing a rep is sensed.  The loud grunt of the large man as he tries to push the weight off his chest shows extreme effort.  The roar of the man lifting the weight and the exciting encouragement from his spotter fills the air.  The feel of the muscle in the body growing bigger and bigger keeps him going.

Thud, thud, thud is the sound the basketball makes as it is dribbled down the court.  Boys loop down the court as they pass the ball back and forth.  The first boy shoots and you hear a swish. The other team scurries back the other way. On their way back squeak, squeak, squeak is the sound their shoes makes as they move around on the court.  Clank as the basketball hits the rim and the other team snatches it up.  One boy dribbles down and dunks as all the players roar in excitement.

The sight of girls and boys plunging across the court as they try to get a little white ball over the net is heard.  The look of pain as the skin falls on ones knees from diving.  Slap as the ball sores over the net and thuds as it hits the ground on the other side.  The look of pain as the ball hits one girl in the face.  The sight of tears running down her face is saddening.  The sharp pain of spiking the ball over the net is brutal.

There are the muscle bound meat heads who just want to get massive.  There are the ripped that are in there for hours every day just to get perfect to walk across the stage.  There are the gifted that are running and lifting trying to get bigger, faster and stronger for their sport.  There are the gossip girls who talk more then they work.  Lastly there are the Creepers. These are the guys well, sometimes girls who just go there to maybe look like there lifting but really just to stare at all the body’s.  They know they are seen, but they just keep looking and looking.

The awful odor coming from those who need to shower or should have showered before they came.  The smell of the gossip girl who is there just to look pretty and talk and maybe do some work as they spray on their perfume.  The foul smell of the equipment that needs to be cleaned and the wood smell from the basketball court that burns the nose.  The lingering smell of throw up in the trash can from the kid who isn’t in shape yet is truly disgusting.

Boom, boom, boom goes the sound of the base of the loud hip hop music.  The screaming of the loud rocker, the sweet melody of the pop songs and the twang from the country music fills the air.  The sounds they try to compete with, the feet from the treadmill, the weights hitting the ground, the roars from the court.

law to end road rage

The law to end all Road Rage

Most people who get frustrated on the highway are frustrated at the elderly or young drivers.  Any where you go you can see people honking their horns and getting mad because of the elderly and young drivers.  Not only do those people who are mad cause accidents the elderly and young drivers, also cause a lot of accidents as well.  There should be a law for all elderly and young drivers to say in the new slow lane on all highways.

First off there needs to be specific laws for this new highway lane, but first drivers who are 70 years or older must drive in this lane, and also drivers who have only a permit and or are on their first year of driving by themselves must drive in this lane.  On the other side of this as well drivers who do not fit these qualifications and are in this lane will be ticketed.

In addition the elderly should have their own lane to help prevent accidents. The elderly should have their own lane so they don’t have to worry about people speeding around them and causing them to get nervous and cause an accident.  The elderly get startled very easy, so if a person come flying by them in might scare them into losing control and crashing and causing others to get hurt at the same time. With this new lane you would not have to worry about that at all.

Secondly teenage drivers should have their own lane to make sure they learn the open road without it being so scary. Young drivers should have their own lane because this way they would not have to worry about keeping up with all those speedy drivers.  They can slow down and learn the roads and how to drive.  With this lane young drivers will be ready for when they get older and they will be ready for the real highway.  Also young driver get intimidated when cars fly by them and then they think they’re going to slow so they speed up and then they end up crashing because they don’t know how to handle a car that is going that fast, but this would not happen with this new lane young drives will learn the roads and get confidence.

Finally the elderly and young drivers should have their own lane to make the roads safer for everyone else.  The elderly and young drivers should have their own lane to help with the reaction time. Studies have shown that the elderly reaction time is so much slower than the averages persons. Then the teen driver does not have experience so there reaction time in crunch time is slower then regular drivers. Both of these cause accidents; however that will not happen with this lane because the elderly will have more time to react.  The speeds are slower and then the young drivers can learn reaction time without causing a wreck at this slower speed.

This law will save millions of lives plain and simple. Through the three reasons you can see that with this new lane there will be fewer accidents caused by elderly and young drivers.  In addition taking these drivers off the highway will cause the normal driver less problems and cause less road rage and accidents from them as well.  With this law the highway will be safer and a better place to take your family without having to worry about the elderly and young drivers.

story of a champion the final chapter for the week of the 26th

.  Next came baseball witch he was not sure if he wanted to play or not but he did. And it flew by and was ok.  He was ready for his junior season and wanted to be all state and get a ring.  The season went great well beside the state in the first game of the season Jared tore his Medial Collateral ligament (MCL). This put him out for four games this is the first I’m he has ever missed a game in his whole career. After the injury it was really hard for him but he got back and started to play again.  He was not back to full strength until the 14th game of the year which was there Simi finalist game witch with a win they would make it to the state championship game.  With a great game my Jared and him team they made it to the state championship game in St. Louis Missouri at the Edward Jones Dome.  The game was a great time for him it was so much fun to get to play there and by the end of the game the Spoofhounds came up just short.  They lost the game by three points.  The was such a terrible feeling for the team. It might have been every player in the locker-room crying besides Jared he put those feelings into anger and was determinate to win state in wrestling. A couple weeks later Jared got more bad news he had broken bone in his wrist in the state championship game.  He could either take some time off and get it healed or just wrestle with it and that’s what he did. He taped it so tight ever single practice and meet just so he could wrestle. He ended up not doing to bad and made it to state. His goals were set high again for another year and they were achieved he ended up getting seventh again.  This time he decided not to play baseball and get his wrist healed and just lift and concentrate on football because he wanted to play college football.  The off season worked and he came in ready to go win the championship it was his last chance. His team and him worked their butts off and got all the way back to the state game even though they were picked not to even make it to the play offs after losing 20 seniors from the year before.  This time they knew they were going to get it done. They did they won the game 35 to 0. This was amazing this was such a great feat they had done.  The town was so happy. Next the college team in the town won the national championship so everyone called Maryville Missouri title town USA.  With the ring on this finger and his dream complete he was ready to go do the same thing in wrestling. Even though it ended the same way his freshman year did a rip off in the district match to knock him off from going to state.  Jared a couple weeks earlier Jared had signed to play football for Missouri Southern State University in Joplin Missouri, so he was not to upset. Even though wrestling did not go the way he wanted the next goal was in motion and he was ready to start college and go win another championship.

why kids should be active part two for week of the 26th

Sports teach children about teamwork and about how their actions affect other people. If they can’t learn to work together with teammates while playing a sport they enjoy, how will they be able to work with co-workers they may or may not like while performing a job they may or may not enjoy?  This is an important lesson to learn.  Encourage your child to be a team player and, as a sports parent, keep tabs on whether or not your words and actions promote this trait in your child.

The fifth reason is so they can Develop Time Management Skills. Adding extracurricular activities to your child’s schedule encourages development of and time management and prioritization skills. Teach your child that taking care of responsibilities, such as school work and cleaning up after themselves, comes first. This gives them their first taste of prioritization. Next, help your child formulate a plan which enables them to efficiently handle their responsibilities while still leaving time for sports practices and competitions. For example, show your child how working on homework instead of playing outside during their after-school program helps them finish their homework in time for practice each day. Then go ahead and make that part of your plan.

The sixth reason is so they can learn About Dealing with Adversity early on in life. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone has problems. How well you handle these mistakes and problems directly affects happiness and quality of life. Many people “get in a slump” and can’t get out of it. Others continue making the same mistakes over and over again. In sports, we always try to minimize errors, but we’re human. Mistakes happen. Even professional athletes make bad choices and make bad plays, but it’s not the mistake that counts. What you do from that point forward carries much more significance. If your child learns how to deal with adversity, errors, and challenges in sports, chances are, they’ll be able to translate that skill to real life and effectively minimize mistakes and/or bad decisions as well as competently recover from setbacks.

The last reason why kids should play sports is to Have Fun!  Positive experiences play an essential role in raising a happy, healthy human being.  Sports provide numerous opportunities for positive experiences both for your child as an individual, and for your family as a whole. “Sports parents” are blessed with the chance to watch their child have fun while learning and developing as an athlete and as a human being.

In conclusion today you have learned about the seven reasons why your kid should play sports. I know I always had fun when I was a kid playing sports and I know when I have kids someday they will to. Nope I hope you can get your kids involved and they can have as much fun as I did.

why kids should be active part one

Mickey Mantle said this “A team is where a boy can prove his courage on his own. A gang is where a coward goes to hide."

The days are changing. Maybe not as noticeable to us but for those who came before us.  Kids these days just aren’t playing sports like they use to. They all just stay inside on the coach playing Xbox and eating. This is bad news. I was a three sport athlete since I was in 1st grade still I was a senior in high school. Now I just play football and I’m a health promotion major. It kills me to see kids being like this. I know some of my best memories from when I was a little kid were when I was playing sports. Like my first hr, my first pin or the first state title in 6th grade.  Sports teach you so many things that life doesn’t teach you as fast. Today I’m going to tell you about the 7 reasons why kids should play sports.

The first reason is to encourage a Healthy Lifestyle. Exercise teaches your child the importance of fitness. This, along with proper nutrition, plays a vital role in maintaining health.  Children need physical activity every day and participation in sports helps fill this need. With today’s wealth of video games daily physical activity is often times forgotten. Getting your child involved with sports helps them make exercise a part of their lifestyle and increases their chance of a being a healthier adult.

The second reason is that being an athlete and playing sports Promote Self Esteem. When a child realizes that they are getting better and better at their sport, they can’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment. Choosing a sport your child can grow and improve in gives your child an opportunity to build self-esteem. Together, with positive reinforcement from you their parent, they will gain confidence and have a more positive view of themselves.

The third reason is to teach them how to set Goals. I’m sure you’ll agree goal setting and success go hand in hand. Participation in sports gives your child a fun, practical way to learn about goal setting. They’ll see, experience, and learn about how goal setting works. If your child’s coach doesn’t cover goal setting, that’s okay! You as a parent can sit down with your child and set goals.  By assisting your child in developing this skill, you give them a better chance at succeeding in life.

The fourth reason is they Learn and Experience Teamwork. How often have you read a help wanted ad where the employer wants a “team player” or a candidate that “works well with others”? I see it all the time. How much more valuable are you as an employee when you can put differences aside and get the job done?

Story of a champion part 3

The first year of High school was good for Jared in the class room he got all A’s and B’s.  This was good with balancing school work and sports.  Football didn’t quite go the way Jared wanted.  The high school just got a new head football coach and at the begging of the summer Jared got some playing time as a started on both sides of the ball.  This was impressive for a freshman. By the time school came around and the season started the head coach decided that Jared wasn’t ready for varsity football; even though he was bigger stronger and faster than the started. Also Jared’s defensive line coach and the defensive quardinator fought for him it didn’t work and he had to play with the freshman.  With the great success Jared class has had in the past they thought they would have went unbeaten or close to it but it was the opposite. They went 3-3-1.  This really made Jared mad and he was ready for wrestling to start.  He was the starting HWT, and Jared may have been young but he didn’t wrestle like it: he was fearless, cunning, and driven.  By the end of the season he had the most pins and quick pins on the team and was one match away from making it to state.  In his last match at districts there was questionable call by a referee and it lost him the match.  Even though he didn’t make it to state he was ok with it and he was ready to play baseball.  Baseball season didn’t quite turn out the way he wanted it to.  Instead of playing first and third base like he always had beside when he was young he was asked to be the catcher after the two starters had got suspended for alcohol and drugs. Even though he had not played it since he was young he did a great job but it just wasn’t as fun as it use to be.  Now that it was over and it was time to start looking forward to football again.  Jared was named the starter and was the only under class man on the defense.  He took this role well and played well and earned Honorable mention all conference. For the team they were one game away from making it to the state play offs and they lost by seven to the eventual state champs. That was the only close game they had on their way to winning state.  With that being over Jared remember the disappointment form last year’s district and was pumped for the season.  Jared was one of the team leaders and had the best record on the team with the most pins to match. This year he made it to state and was excited to get a medal. He was picked to finish fifth.  After it was all said and done Jared need up getting seventh after not wrestling as well as he thought he would.

The story of a champing part one and two.

Story of a Champion blog part one and two

On a cool October morning Jane and Jeff had their second child; a little baby boy. They decided to name the child Jared. They decided on Jared because they liked the name and also now everyone in the family had the initials JD. The whole family was so happy to have a second blessing in their lives.

Jane couldn’t believe it had been five years already. The time was upon them for little Jared to start school.  The first few days went slow but he started to make new friends and have fun.  Plus if he ever had any questions his brother Jim could answer them.  Jim was two years older and had a lot of experience.  Besides tee ball Jared had not started playing sports yet but he was ready.  One of the older kids on the bus that Jared and Jim looked up to told them about the sport of wrestling.  They were both excited and though it would be lots of fun.  Wrestling was tuff for both of them at first but they caught on fast. They started going to meets where they finished third and fourth; therefore it wasn’t too bad for just starting out. As elementary school went bye they both became some of the best in their age and weight class.  Also as elementary school moved on as the competition became harder so did the classes.  Third grade was finally here for Jared and he was really excited for school but also he was now old enough to start football.  As practices went on Jared realized how much fun it was and because he was a little big for his age so he had to play offensive and defensive line.  Also as practices went along he became the kicker.  As the season went along it went pretty good and it became Jared new favorite sport.  Wrestling and baseball season went by really fast as he was so excited for the next football season to start.  This year went even better for Jared; he was doing great in the class room and making more and more friends.  In football, wrestling and baseball he started to become better and stronger.  This was his last year in elementary school and now it was time for Middle School.

Jared was really excited but so nervous at the same time.  School work became al to harder in middle school and he had to work harder and spend more time on it. This meant that it took more time away from his athletics.  Fifth and sixth grade were great years for Jared in sports.  In Fifth grade his team won the championship this was the first time in Hounds history.  Wrestling season was just as successful for Jared. He ended up going to the Show Me State games in Columbia, Missouri.  He made it all the way the finals but ended up losing and bringing home silver.  Baseball Season flew bye and it was time for football again. This year the Hounds won the championship. This back to back championship was the first in Hound’s history.  Then in wrestling Jared was at the Show Me Games again and in the finals.  He was determined to win it this year.  He ended up losing in a close match and bringing home silver again. With that second place finish it qualified him to go to nationals in St. Louis Missouri.  Again even on this national stage he made it the finals match, but yet again he brought home the silver.  Even though he didn’t win it still is a great accomplishment.  Next for Jared was seventh and eighth grade, which with the more freedom of growing up came more responsibility.  With the next grades came hard work and more homework.  With this he had to develop even more time management skills so he could get all his work done and still have time for sports.  Now sports were affiliated with the schools.  Now Jared was a Spoofhound.   Seventh grade went by with a blink of an eye.  Now it was time for eight grades. Football season was here and the games seamed to last forever because he never got to come off the field. He played both offence and defense and also being the kicker and long snapper.  The season went by really fast and the Spoofhounds won all five of their games which crowned them conference champs.  Wrestling was a lot of the same story for Jared. Though the regular season Jared went 34 and 0, now he decided to wrestle at USA Wrestling were he would wrestling the best HWT in the state.  Four matches later Jared was standing in the tunnel of Mizzou Arena waiting to run out for the interdictions of the finalist. This match would be for the state title and be wrestled in front of 4,000 people.  He was feeling really confident going into the match because he had already beaten the state champ from last year.  Again like every other finals match he had been in he came home with the silver.

The next challenge for Jared was not on the gridiron or on the mat it was High School.  This was going to be a lot different for him. In middle school all his classes were in the same area. Now it high school he had to walk clear across the school for some of his classes, and he only had five minutes to do it.  Besides sports going into his first year of high school something that took up a lot of Jared’s was riding and training horses.  This was not only fun it was a great stress reliever, and  also it was a something they could do as a family.  Horse training was kind of like sports it gave him a lot of life lesions like passion, compassion, trust, and hard work.  All of these attributes helped Jared not only in life but sports.
